We were approached by Li Jiacheng, a pottery artist who focuses on creating functional art that connects with nature and himself.
Fire, paper, and burn!
The Creative Process
We drew inspiration from Li Jiacheng's artistic approach to pottery. Much of his work reflects natural elements like mountains, sunsets, and the sea. We admired his deep connection to the earth, with it being the material of his creation; and fire, an essential element that molds the final appearance of each piece.
Li Jiacheng wanted his business card to incorporate elements of sunrise, sunset, and mountains. Guided by the keywords "cool, chinese brush painting, and creative," we were inspired by fire and earth tones to burn the paper into a round shape that embodies both the sunrise/sunset and the mountains on each side of the card.
A glimpse of some of the burned marks that symbolise the sunset/sunrise, and the open burned mark that reflects on the other side that represents mountain cuts.
